Plugin Profile gives you another look at the plugins you use to add those very important features to your website. I'm glad I decided to give it a try. My goal with every site I build is to use less plugins however sometimes using more is necessary. Plugin profile helps to give you an actual look at the cost of using those plugins you choose to increase website functionality.

Wordpress Plugin: Buddypress Media

This isn't a post all about the actual features themselves but about the company RTCamp actually going a step beyond the norm. I am pleased and impressed by their addition of a support tab right inside the administration section of the plugin on your website. Wow, ain't she a beauty ? 

When a developer does something to make my job easier and nearly pain free I'll gladly acknowledge and thank them.  Good developers deserve recognition for building the things we love. This means that while I'm in the midst of all the things I do with these twenty tabs, two browsers, head phones, telephone and the cell phone I can submit a problem right here and right now.

While it may not look like it, the iPhone is basically a small computer that fits in your palm or your pocket. And though it doesn't look like your desktop or laptop, just like those devices, sometimes it needs to be restarted to fix problems.
When the iPhone crashes, locks up in a way that prevents the iPhone from responding to being turned off, or just isn't working as it should (you'd be surprised at how many problems can be solved by a simple reset) you need to reset the iPhone. Here's how:

1. Reset the iPhone by holding the sleep/wake button at the top right of the device and the home button at the bottom center of the face at the same time.
2. Hold them both until you see the screen go black. In some cases, you may need to keep holding them even after the red power off slider appears. If it does, just keep holding it.
3. Wait until the white Apple logo appears.
4. When this happens, you can let go - the iPhone is rebooting.

An iPhone reset will not normally remove or delete any data or settings. However, the term reset is also sometimes used to mean deleting all content from the iPhone and/or restoring from a backup.

SEO: Google Can Learn

Google is the SEO giant that every webmaster what's to master, please and or dominate. What do we do and how do we do it ?  Google is sure to lead the way. Google sets the standard and we comply. The thing is google is always changing in their effort to improve and impress it's users. Today's trend is search personalization. The traditional technique of search engine optimization are a thing of the past. Let us all bow our heads for a moment of silence. 

By 2004, search engines had incorporated a wide range of undisclosed factors in their ranking algorithms to reduce the impact of link manipulation. In June 2007, The New York Times' Saul Hansell stated Google ranks sites using more than 200 different signals.^[10] The leading search engines, Google, Bing, and Yahoo, do not disclose the algorithms they use to rank pages. Some SEO practitioners have studied different approaches to search engine optimization, and have shared their personal opinions^[11] Patents related to search engines can provide information to better understand search engines.^[12]

In 2005, Google began personalizing search results for each user. Depending on their history of previous searches, Google crafted results for logged in users.^[13] In 2008, Bruce Clay said that "ranking is dead" because of personalized search. He opined that it would become meaningless to discuss how a website ranked, because its rank would potentially be different for each user and each search.^[14]

In 2007, Google announced a campaign against paid links that transfer PageRank.^[15] On June 15, 2009, Google disclosed that they had taken measures to mitigate the effects of PageRank sculpting by use of the nofollow attribute on links. Matt Cutts, a well-known software engineer at Google, announced that Google Bot would no longer treat nofollowed links in the same way, in order to prevent SEO service providers from using nofollow for PageRank sculpting.^[16] As a result of this change the usage of nofollow leads to evaporation of pagerank. In order to avoid the above, SEO engineers developed alternative techniques that replace nofollowed tags with obfuscated Javascript and thus permit PageRank sculpting. Additionally several solutions have been suggested that include the usage of iframes, Flash and Javascript.^[17]

In December 2009, Google announced it would be using the web search history of all its users in order to populate search results.^[18]

Wordpress Plugin: Wanguard

I've actually been using this plugin for over a year. I just decided to add it to one of the busier sites. I'm so glad I did. This little beauty goes through all your users to see if they have been reported as sploggers or spam bloggers. Yes, we all hate those useless blog post and comments that attempt to take over our virtual space in an attempt to sell us some irrelevant crap we were not looking for. Umph, some people are so absolutely rude. Well, this little beauty solves the problem.

I learned about this software from an online course, YAY ! I'm dedicated to my craft and I'm doing to learn as much as I can. In a nutshell,  Bitnami allows you to install web based software locally on your computer easy and effortlessly. So you can test all your wordpress themes and plugins logically on your computer before uploading them to your site. You have no idea how much time this saves you.

I've been using this for about two weeks now and It is awesome ! I love it. It makes everything so much easier. So right now I have child themes for every wordpress website that I am working on. Can you say magically delicious ?

Facebook Tab Improvements

I'm absolutely excited about the tool I recently found to make adding a little flair to your Facebook page faster and easier. Below are two new tabs I added to the Facebook page for ClubbinChicago.com 

The first tab displays the website twitter page and all it's tweets. This tab was added for all the facebook fans who don't use twitter and also for accountability purposes. When it's important to for people to know what you say this tab is extremely helpful. 

This second tab is the Chicago Music group from sound cloud. I removed the old tab which allowed you to drop music in the group and added this tab to display all the music that is already in the group. This is a way to showcase the many Chicago Artist that Chicago's Hottest Parties Online supports. I see this as a wonderful feature to add to the page. I mean what is better than being able to scroll down a list full of your city's talented emerging musical artist. This list is for all genre of music. 

Facebook App: Shop Buddy

Amazon I'd love to see Shop Buddy work with other e-commerce software and even websites like Amazon, ebay and cafe press and spreadshirt. Yes, that would be facebook application heaven. I'm gonna keep my eyes open for developments and other apps. However, I do plan to build some applications of my own that will help my clients and e-commerce is priority.

Know How To Increase Your Odds In order to successfully navigate Facebook's quickly changing landscape you need to understand how users interact with your page and how feeds work.  TechCrunch recently released an article that provides some very insightful information into determining if your posts will show up in your fans news feeds: Create "likeable" Content: The more your fans "like" content on your page, the more often your posts will show up in their feed. Other's Reactions Matter: If your post shows up in some users feeds but is ignored or marked as spam, your post is less likely to be shown to more people. Content Types Are Important:  If a particular user has a tendency to like videos or photos posted by your page, then they are more likely to be shown that type of content on a regular basis. Facebook Graph Search Is Your Friend Facebook's new Graph Search is changing the way that business will connect with customers, and be found by new fans.  Facebook Page best practices include creating a complete profile and making sure your information is up to date but additionally you'll find that Graph Search has optimization opportunities including: About Section: Your name, category, vanity URL, and additional information is all searchable and will help people find your business. I feel panic because if he has words for me I'm sure he isn't going to talk about pudding. Imagine that, me getting a lecture from Bill Cosby. I mean honestly what could I say and what would I say ?

This is entirely too much pressure for a linked in invitation. I know. I hope this isn't one of those catfish things ! Now I have to do a little research to find out if yes it is true Bill Cosby is well aware of the internet. What am I going to do. I mean first it was Mc Hammer, then it was Snoop Lion, then Bill Cosby and I saw a request from Keith Sweat.

Yes, someone is pranking me big time and I am not taking the bait. Now a friend request from Snoop Lion on myspace I can believe and then a twitter follow from Mc Hammer ok. However am I really supposed to believe that Bill Cosby and Keith Sweat want to be my friend ? Ha, not in a million years.

Twitter Tool: Conweets

Amazon You are going to love this. Some of you may be able to see that I love software. I think I've also said it a time or two. If it can make a process easier or faster then there is a pretty good chance that I will love it. This website I came across today and rather quickly. I was on twitter when I wanted to refresh the memory of the person I was speaking with. So I went to google and came upon con-weets or conweets.  This website allows you to track a conversation between two people. Magical isn't it ? I know, I know you want to stare at the page for a while. Go ahead take your time. I'll be here all night.
