Wordpress site: Twista

So, what do we have here ? A wordpress website for Chicago's very own Tung Twista ! That's right this website was made on wordpress. More importantly this website was designed by one of the most well known media companies in the entertainment industry. I became familiar with their work last year and while most of it is quite impressive this one I consider average. There really isn't any thing over the top about the design of this site but the graphics are nice.

Wordpress Plugin: P3 Update

I'm longing for the day when I can say good bye to nextgen. Kicking nextgen to the curb will surely lighten things up a bit. With the improvements to wordpress I'm sure I can manage without it.   As you can see twitter tools could use some "lightening" or should we call it a diet, lol.

What can I say ? Jermaine Dupri of So So Def understands the power of wordpress and buddypress and has a thriving community of die hard So So Defers. This is another wordpress website that is doing exactly what it was intended to do. It's a social network that I'm sure is giving a much needed boost to the popularity of Jermaine Dupri.

Wordpress Site : GoSity Entertainment

This is the second post of many post to come in which I will show you various entertainment websites that use opensource software such as wordpress, joomla, drupal etc.   The first picture below is how Gosity Entertainment's website is currently shown with a customized wordpress theme.

Wordpress Plugin: Buddypress Media

Buddypress Media like most wordpress plugins are in continuous development. I have watched this plugin, grow and transform into a plugin I can almost compare to Gallery 2. Oh, how my heart has missed Gallery 2 with every key I've pressed on my keyboard. Ok, maybe I'm being a bit dramatic but you have to admit drama sells. 
Gallery 2 is one of the most powerful media galleries on the internet and the only gallery comparable is the coopermine gallery. Gallery 2 allows you to add photo, video's, mp3's and even flash files. So, when I decided to add some flash games (FLV files) to my members section it was a piece of cake. Gallery 2 also allowed you to add media direct from a location on your server and you could change the themes and even set the permission per user/groups. What was even better than all of that was it integrated into wordpress, phpnuke and phpbb magically. 
The one thing I don't like about Buddypress media is the fact that it is totally dependent on well, buddypress. It would be really cool if you could use it within any wordpress website with or without buddypress in the same way that you could use Gallery 2. I don't think that will ever happen but it would be nice.

Wordpress Site: Last Coast Entertainment

A trained and experienced webmaster can usually tell how a website was made. This is something I love doing because most people have huge misconceptions about webdesign andwordpress.

Recently, I was informed that a misconception is that wordpress is only used on cheap websites. 

This is the first of many websites that I will display and reveal here. 

Clearly you can see that this first theme is the same as the last two. This is a wordpress theme which has been customized for the website Last Coast Entertainment. There really isn't much else going on here. This wordpress theme was a great choice because it's responsive.

This is the purchased premium theme called Sahifa and it's a reasonable price of $45 dollars.

Plugin Profile gives you another look at the plugins you use to add those very important features to your website. I'm glad I decided to give it a try. My goal with every site I build is to use less plugins however sometimes using more is necessary. Plugin profile helps to give you an actual look at the cost of using those plugins you choose to increase website functionality.

Wordpress Plugin: Buddypress Media

This isn't a post all about the actual features themselves but about the company RTCamp actually going a step beyond the norm. I am pleased and impressed by their addition of a support tab right inside the administration section of the plugin on your website. Wow, ain't she a beauty ? 

When a developer does something to make my job easier and nearly pain free I'll gladly acknowledge and thank them.  Good developers deserve recognition for building the things we love. This means that while I'm in the midst of all the things I do with these twenty tabs, two browsers, head phones, telephone and the cell phone I can submit a problem right here and right now.

Wordpress Plugin: Wanguard

I've actually been using this plugin for over a year. I just decided to add it to one of the busier sites. I'm so glad I did. This little beauty goes through all your users to see if they have been reported as sploggers or spam bloggers. Yes, we all hate those useless blog post and comments that attempt to take over our virtual space in an attempt to sell us some irrelevant crap we were not looking for. Umph, some people are so absolutely rude. Well, this little beauty solves the problem.

Re-organizing Website

You know I don't really consider myself a techie but here I am in front of the computer once again and the only thing on my mind is getting these sites better. It's always a nagging thought to make the websites better. I decided before the release of wordpress 3.0 that I would re-organize the sites I manage that run on the wonderful wordpress platform and doing that has made things easier. 

I must admit though Chicago's hottest parties online has transformed into a more work for me then I anticipated. I never intended for this project to result in me doing so much. Several times I've thought about dropping it and never looking back. I think I'm still learning lesson on letting go of the vision.

If I were following my own advise I would have dropped Chicago's hottest parties online when I didn't see the fliers for them being circulated, and when I pressed play on video after video and didn't see patrons in the club rocking Chicago's hottest parties online T-shirts. Why am I blogging this..? I'm blogging this because it's time to tell it like it is.

I am responsible for website hosting, website design, website promotion, email marketing, video and photo editing. In a nutshell most of what you see and hear on the internet for Chicago's hottest parties online and with all things considered I've done more than enough, more than what was agreed upon and more than most were willing to do.

I absolutely draw the line at promoting people and companies for free. I did not take on this project to promote friends, venues and promoters that are too cheap to invest in themselves and their business and now it is written. Here it is feel free to read this as many times as you need to. 

Chicago's hottest parties online is still a work in progress and it is no where near what it needs to be or what it should be. This website is all about community and it is beneficial to the community of Chicago but most beneficial to the urban nightlife community. It's also supposed to be about networking and having fun !

There are no plans to turn it into an imitation facebook. There are plans to implement several ways for bloggers to make money from their blog post and plans to allow live streaming video on venue and entertainer pages. The idea of adding classifieds, games, and greeting cards, has been dismissed.

Chicago's hottest parties online is Chicago's #1 nightlife blogging community !!  Is there another nightlife blogging community..?

RSS Feed plugin (fix-rss-feed)

So, I've been having a problem with the rss feed on a site and it's really been getting under my skin. The rss feed is EXTREMELY important because it's used to circulate your content all over the net.I've had this problem on other sites before which was quickly resolved by removing the space at the end of the plugin file.

However doing that didn't work with this site. After I went through over 30 plugins the error was still there so I used a the fix-rss-feed plugin . I've used it before to fix rss errors and it worked. However this time It fixed the rss errors and moments later the site went blank. When you've had this happen to you a few times before it's no need to panic as long as your database is ok and you have a back up of your files all is good.


So, in my frustration I decided to work on the members section of another site until my frustration passed over me or through me. UGH !!Emailed the developer of the plugin yesterday got a reply today. Now, that is how business is done. Yet, someone from right here in Chicago still hasn't gotten back to me about setting up his paysite. Now isn't that something..?

Anywho, I like this plugin it just needs some tweaking. It finds the files that have a problem and it gives you the option of going through each file manuely or using the plugin to fix the files

In this case it listed 365 files with errors from various plugins and I wasn't going to list them here but I've decided to list some of them to help the developers of these plugins to improve their plugins. If I list your plugin and you want me to remove it for whatever reason just let me know.

I'm not here to make war. I love programmers and developers !!

Wordpress Plugin Assign Categories

I will blog a lot about my experiences with open source software such as Wordpress.
Wordpress is the best darn thing that has happened to the internet. Wordpress is open source *free* made for blogging but used for every type of site you can think of.

I love wordpress not because it's free but because you love wordpress. Yep, that's right so many people find wordpress easy to use and with more people using it more and more and more plugins are being made. There are so many plugins for wordpress that sometimes It's such a hassle to go through them all.

It's a hassle to find the plugin you need for your site. There is just so much wordpress information and resource sites to look through but the beauty is usually if you keep looking you find what you need.

Nearly everyday I have some type of wordpress maintenance to do on a site. And since I've decided to wait for WPMU to become better developed I needed a plugin that would help assign user categories.

First plugin I found didn't work although the title and description was right on target.

A Few mins on google and I was able to find a forum of wordpress users dicussing that same issue.


And they listed two more wordpress plugins:

After trying them both I decided upon plugin 2.

Which allows you to assign categories by user instead of my role.

When I choose plugins I take into account the number of times a plugin has been downloaded in addition to the comments and suggestions of other users and experience of the plugin developer. Everyone that develops a plugin isn't an experienced developer so it's best to get familiar with the developers to choose plugins from trusted and experienced developers as a precaution.

The downside of plugins is since many of them are free they are use at your own risk. Which means if you screw up your site adding a plugin tuff titty.

Wordpress, Oh wordpress...

I mean seriously can a chick not love wordpress. Anything you can think of some programmer/developer has made it for the press. Wordpress has a way of making you love it one plug-in and upgrade at a time.

It's so simple and still stylish and affordable all at that same time.
